EMDR Therapy

Helping You Process Trauma and Move Forward

Painful experiences can continue to affect emotions, relationships, and daily life long after they occur. Even when you understand why you’re reacting a certain way, lasting change can be difficult without addressing how those experiences have been stored by the brain.

At John Davis Counseling, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of several evidence-based treatment approaches used to help clients process unresolved trauma, reduce emotional distress, and build healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR is a psychotherapy approach designed to help the brain process traumatic or distressing experiences. During treatment, clients recall difficult memories while engaging in guided bilateral stimulation, helping reduce the emotional intensity connected to those experiences.

Rather than simply talking about the past, EMDR helps the brain process memories so they no longer have the same impact on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

How John Davis Uses EMDR

John Davis incorporates EMDR as part of a personalized treatment plan based on each client’s needs. Rather than using a single therapeutic approach, EMDR is often combined with attachment-based therapy, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and relational therapy to support lasting emotional growth.

Treatment always begins with understanding your goals and determining whether EMDR is the right fit for your situation.
