Hypnosis & Meditation

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can affect us at many points in our lives, even long after the original events have left our conscious memories.
Combat trauma, rape, incest, domestic violence, witnessing death and destruction….can leave lasting negative impact on our thoughts and feelings, even producing intrusive
thoughts, panic, depression and substance abuse. For the most severe of these cases we rely on clinical hypnosis and EMDR. (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

Clinical hypnotherapy is available for a variety of complaints, including depression, panic, stopping smoking and weight control. Hypnosis may require additional time and fees. It can also be used as an outstanding enhancement for brief, solutions focused therapy.

We’ve discovered that often, insight gained from traditional therapy is not enough. Other tools are needed. Rapid healing of complex trauma, especially childhood mistreatment including sexual abuse is the focus of much of our work. We do this by engaging our natural sense of emotional balance through clinical hypnosis, body work and emotional catharsis. Hypnosis can provide a swift and dramatic turnaround in our sense of emotional wellness and self confidence. As well, we use EMDR. EMDR stands for “eye movement desensitization and reprocessing” and was developed from the work of Dr Francine Shapiro, initially to relieve the suffering of war veterans. EMDR has been shown to be one of the most reliable and clinically validated effective therapies for a variety of disorders, including trauma, depression, addiction, panic and PTSD. EMDR has been shown to provide relief for many psychological problems that may have defied traditional therapy. It is the cutting edge methodology for addiction cure used by recovery professionals worldwide. Often the healing of underlying post traumatic stress can bring an end to addiction and mood swings. In just a few sessions, patients extend the benefits of EMDR and learn to take charge of their moods and control panic, fear and intrusive thoughts.

A great supportive aid to therapy and problem solving is meditation. The simple act of sitting quietly training our minds to be at peace, is an excellent path to greater personal effectiveness and living a life on purpose. Buddhist psychology is replete with the many descriptions of pathways to this kind of serenity. We encourage interested patients to inquire, offering a number of books and other resources to acquaint those who are curious.

We frequently recommend meditation to our clients.  It produces a strong ability to focus and stay on task, lowering stress, reducing reactivity, creating greater emotional resilience and less addictive behavior. No matter what we call it, “just sitting” is an excellent way to restore our holistic health.

Many of our patients actively participate in Yoga and Meditation classes held locally. Ask us about meditation, or about enhancing your already existing personal practice.
